The Wentworth-Douglass Hospital Board of Trustees recently approved a $30,000 restricted community benefit grant to aid in the continued support and advancement of Dover Fire & Rescue’s Quality Assurance and Improvement Program. The grant will fund necessary training and education to help the department’s staff be better prepared to manage and treat all types of medical emergencies in the community.
Dover Fire & Rescue has used previous grants from Wentworth-Douglass to provide assistance and trainings to help its 55 employees meet re-certification requirements. The current grant funding will support a variety of initiatives, including monthly EMS trainings on topics ranging from pediatric, seizure and diabetic emergencies, to trauma triage, and caring for at-risk populations and those with special healthcare needs.
Additionally, the funding will be used to run specialized trainings on the use of video laryngoscopes and CPR assist devices in conjunction with Wentworth-Douglass’s advanced medical Simulation Center.
“Ongoing education and continuous quality improvement are two of the most important factors which support Dover Fire & Rescue’s mission to deliver the best possible pre-hospital emergency medical care,” says Division Chief Michael McShane of Dover Fire & Rescue. “It is important to recognize that our successes are simply a component of a well-designed continuum of patient care and collaboration between Dover Fire & Rescue and Wentworth-Douglass Hospital. On behalf of Chief Hagman, myself, and the entire Dover Fire & Rescue Service, I would like to extend our sincere appreciation for Wentworth-Douglass Hospital’s support.”
“The quality care patients receive at the hospital often begins with our local EMS providers. We are happy to help Dover Fire & Rescue provide its staff with the education and training to make a meaningful impact on the health of the Dover community,” says Jeff Hughes, Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.
