Dr. Christopher Couture joins Wentworth-Douglass Hospital

Christopher Couture, MD, CAQSM, a board-certified sports medicine physician, has joined Wentworth-Douglass Hospital and Wentworth Health Partners Seacoast Orthopedics & Sports Medicine. Dr. Couture will see patients at Seacoast Orthopedics & Sports Medicine’s offices in Lee (65 Calef Highway) and Somersworth (7 Marsh Brook Drive). Dr. Couture will care for athletes of all ages, including college and high school athletes, skiers, snowboarders, and those who participate in contact sports. Dr. Couture specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of sports-related concussions in young athletes and will also be Head Team Physician for the University of New Hampshire Wildcats.

Dr. Couture has more than 20 years of clinical practice and teaching experience in primary care and sports medicine. He earned his medical degree from the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H. He then completed the Dartmouth Family Medicine Residency followed by a sports medicine fellowship at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in Tulsa, Okla.

After his fellowship, Dr. Couture worked as Staff Physician and Associate Program Director of the Family Medicine Residency Program at the Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska. During this time, he also served as Assistant Primary Care Team Physician at the University of Nebraska-Omaha and Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Dr. Couture returned to New Hampshire in 2006 as Sports Medicine Physician at Access Sports Medicine and Team Physician for Exeter High School.

Dr. Couture most recently cared for patients at Southern New Hampshire Health in Nashua, N.H.; as Medical Director of Rehabilitation Services and a Sports Medicine Physician at Victory Sports Medicine. He is also a member of the Physician Pool for the United States Ski & Snowboard Association and is a consulting physician with the NH Safe Sports Network. Dr. Couture is certified in musculoskeletal sonography and performs a wide range of ultrasound guided orthopedic procedures. Dr. Couture, along with board-certified specialists of Wentworth-Douglass Hospital’s Rehabilitation Services team will be offering a free virtual community education talk geared to parents, coaches, and students on Wednesday, July 29, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. via Zoom video conferencing. During the presentation, “More Than a Headache – Understanding Sports Concussions,” participants will learn about the diagnosis and treatment of sports-related concussions in young athletes including the’11 R's’ of concussion management. Participants will also hear about the basic pathway for concussion management and the importance of Rehabilitation Services for prolonged/complicated sports concussion symptoms.
