Latest Advancement in Hip Replacements

Wentworth-Douglass Hospital (WDH) and Moby Parsons, MD, of Seacoast Orthopedics & Sports Medicine now offer patients the Direct Anterior Total Hip Replacement. The Anterior Approach is a tissue-sparing alternative to traditional methods that allows the surgeon to access the hip joint and implant the prosthesis without having to detach any muscles. By working between natural muscle planes, the operation can be performed with less trauma to the surrounding tissue. This technique offers several potential benefits, including: 1) less postoperative pain; 2) a faster recovery with fewer post-operative activity restrictions; 3) improved implant stability allowing earlier return to normal activities; 4) shortened hospital stay due to rapid recovery. As part of our mission to provide the highest level of safe and effective care, the Joint Replacement Center at WDH looks forward to offering this latest advancement in hip replacement care.

Note: This approach may not be appropriate for all patients including those with complex deformities, those with existing implants that must be removed, patients who have undergone prior hip surgery through a posterior approach and those who require revision total hip replacement.
