Newsweek Names Wentworth-Douglass Among Best Hospitals in U.S.
Wentworth-Douglass Hospital has been named among the best hospitals in the United States, according to Newsweek’s 2021 “World’s Best Hospitals” rankings.
Wentworth-Douglass was ranked 217th among the 334 American hospitals on the publication’s US-based list. There are over 6,000 hospitals in the United States, according to the American Hospital Association. Wentworth-Douglass was the only hospital on the Seacoast to make the list.
“We’re incredibly appreciative of this recognition from Newsweek – one of America’s most respected publications. The fact that we are the only hospital in our region to be honored is a testament to our employees’ commitment to high-quality, safety, and to the entire patient experience, and our employees dedication to putting our patients first in everything we do,” said Interim President & CEO of Wentworth-Douglass Jeff Hughes.
The publication also noted that Wentworth-Douglass performed “above average” in its infection prevention measures.
The rankings were compiled by market and consumer data company Statista. The company used three main data sources for the evaluation including 74,000 recommendations from peers, patient experience surveys, and key performance indicators (like patient safety, hygiene measures, and quality of treatment).
“The 2,000 hospitals named in this list—which covers 25 countries, including United States, United Kingdom, Germany and Canada —stand out for their consistent excellence, including distinguished physicians, top-notch nursing care and state-of-the-art technology,” said Newsweek Global Editor-In-Chief Nancy Cooper on the publication’s website.
Cooper said the rankings can help patients “feel confident as you make a critical choice about medical care.”
