WDH wins VHA Excellence Award for Supply Chain Management

Wentworth-Douglass Hospital (WDH) is a winner of the 2014 VHA Excellence Award for Supply Chain Management. The award recognizes Wentworth-Douglass Hospital’s high level of performance with national standards. WDH won the award because of rapid integration of analytics and business intelligence allowing them to save money for the organization.

“I am extremely proud of the Materiel Management team at Wentworth-Douglass for our ability to secure lower prices,” said Wentworth-Douglass Materiel Management Director Greg Wieder. “As a smaller organization, it can be difficult to obtain discounts on our purchases. It takes research and planning to design the best process possible for our supply chain management to improve product quality at a lower cost. The Wentworth-Douglass team deserves this award for all their hard work.”

Wentworth-Douglass received the award from VHA, a national network of not-for-profit healthcare organizations working together to improve performance and efficiency in clinical, financial and operational management. VHA recognized Wentworth-Douglass Hospital’s efforts at a recent award ceremony.

“Supply costs continue to represent the second highest expense for hospitals, not including labor, and they are always looking for new ways to manage expenses while continuing to provide exceptional patient care,” said Scott Downing, VHA executive vice president, sales and marketing. “This year’s Excellence Award winners demonstrate how savvy supply chain departments are stepping up their value contribution to their organizations beyond traditional cost reduction. The results of their work are actually freeing up caregiver time, improving clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction levels.”
