Wentworth-Douglass Hospital opens Breast Health Center at Portsmouth Outpatient Center

Wentworth-Douglass Hospital today opened its new Breast Health Center at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital Portsmouth Outpatient Center. Offering comprehensive breast diagnostic services, the Breast Health Center, located at 67 Corporate Drive on the hospital’s Portsmouth campus, will feature advanced tomosynthesis, also known as 3D mammography, a technology proven to improve early detection of breast cancer and reduce unnecessary callbacks.

In addition to 3D Mammography, the Wentworth-Douglass Breast Health Center will offer: screening and diagnostic 2D mammography, breast ultrasound and MRI; image-guided needle biopsy; and bone density screening. Patients who are at increased risk for breast cancer will be able to access the High-Risk Clinic to work with a certified breast health nurse navigator who can help coordinate and schedule appointments following a personalized treatment plan.

The American College of Radiology and the Society of Breast Imaging recommends that every woman have an annual mammogram beginning at age 40. One in eight women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime, and most those women have no family history of the disease.

“Early detection dramatically improves treatment and survival rates for breast cancer patients. When breast cancer is found early and before it has spread to other areas of the body, the five-year survival rate is nearly 100 percent. Our center is led by fellowship-trained breast radiologists, so patients can be confident they are getting the most accurate results,” said Judy Canal, Breast Health Administrative Manager at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.

The Breast Health Center is among the first services to open in the newest building on the Wentworth-Douglas Portsmouth Outpatient Center campus. Other services in Building A include an expanded lab and imaging center, including MRI, X-Ray, CT and ultrasound, the new Center for Orthopedics & Sports Medicine and Center for Heart Health, and expanded primary care.

The Wentworth-Douglass Breast Health Center will be open Monday through Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm.
