Wentworth-Douglass Opens New Recovery Location in Hampton

Wentworth-Douglass Hospital has partnered with SOS Recovery to open a new location of The Doorway, a state program that provides assistance for those struggling with substance use disorder. The newest location, which is the second operated by Wentworth-Douglass, is located at SOS Recovery’s offices at One Lafayette Road in Hampton. This second location was opened to address a geographical and service-related gap between Rockingham County and Dover.

“Substance use disorder continues to be a major problem across the country, and the Seacoast is no exception,” said President & CEO of Wentworth-Douglass, Jeffrey Hughes, MPH, FACHE. “We are committed to doing our part in helping our community combat this public health issue, by assisting both those who are struggling and their families,” Hughes added.

The Doorway is a state program that provides a single point of entry for people seeking help for substance use, whether they need treatment, support, or resources for prevention and awareness. The program provides complete assessment, coordinated referral to treatment, and supportive services for anyone living with a substance use disorder.

“We offer the same services in both Hampton and Dover including screening, assessment, connection to treatment, Narcan, harm reduction, bridge therapy, etc.,” said Peter Fifield, Ed.D., MLADC, LCMHC, substance use disorder program manager at The Doorway and integrated behavioral health program manager at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.

“Wentworth-Douglass Hospital and SOS Recovery have had a relationship since 2018 and it’s gratifying to see it continue to grow to our community’s benefit,” Fifield added.

The Doorway at Wentworth-Douglass offers patients licensed alcohol and drug counselors who have access to various resources depending on the situation. Some of these resources include crisis management, continuous recovery support, facilitated access to treatment and recovery, clinical assessments, and referrals, Narcan (Naloxone), interim support and care while waiting for substance abuse treatment, referrals and/or connections to sober living, and walk in appointments. SOS Recovery also serves the community with the resources needed to help people that struggle with substance abuse issues on their road to recovery.

“It’s about getting people well and helping those who need it re-build their lives,” Hughes said.
