Wentworth Health Partners welcomes new Certified Nurse Midwife

Wentworth Health Partners and Wentworth-Douglass Hospital are pleased to welcome certified nurse midwife, Kate Mahar, CNM. Kate joins the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital Center for Women’s Health & Wellness located at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital Portsmouth Outpatient Center – Building A, 67 Corporate Drive, and will work closely with OB/GYN Michelle Ciarlo, MD, to care for women of all ages and expectant mothers.

Certified Nurse Midwives have master’s degrees in nursing and specialized midwifery training and licensing. They can prescribe medications, order tests, help women through labor, deliver babies, and assist with C-sections when necessary. Certified nurse midwives work closely with physicians and maternal-fetal medicine specialists to help women and families experience the pregnancy and birth they envision.

Mahar earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and her Master of Science in Nursing focused on midwifery at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland. Kate previously worked as a Certified Nurse Midwife and Centering Pregnancy Coordinator at Legacy Women’s Group, in Silverton, Ore. and Certified Nurse Midwife at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Plymouth, Mass. Kate enjoys providing compassionate midwifery care to women throughout the lifespan focused on shared decision making, health promotion, and health education.

The Wentworth-Douglass Hospital Center for Women’s Health & Wellness includes comprehensive services women need to stay healthy. The Center’s integrated team includes primary care and OB/GYN physicians, midwives, and women-focused specialists, including cardiology and sports medicine, along with nurse navigators to help women manage their care.
