Philanthropic Investment: Technology Improvements

Wentworth-Douglass Hospital is committed to acquiring the latest technology to advance patient wellness and reshape health care.
Donor support has recently allowed the hospital to add a number of state-of-the-art devices, including:

DA VINCI XI, a surgical robot that provides the most advanced minimally invasive option for complex surgeries. For patients, it means shorter recovery times and faster return to normal activities. The da Vinci Xi has been so successful, in fact, that the hospital hopes to acquire a second unit in the near future.

EDGE RADIOSURGERY SYSTEM provides faster and more precise treatment for patients with tumors where radiation is indicated, while minimizing the dose received by surrounding healthy tissues. Patients at the Seacoast Cancer Center find radiation delivered with this device to be quicker and far more comfortable than traditional options.
When the hospital’s new Cancer Center at Pease opens in Spring 2019, it will also include an Edge—a boon to patients in the Portsmouth area.

SIMULATION (SIM) CENTER allows Wentworth-Douglass Hospital staff to keep up with medical advances. Opened in 2016, the Sim Center provides hands-on experiences in replicated real-life medical situations. Staff—as well as area EMTs—are able to use high-tech mannequins to practice numerous emergency scenarios, including pediatric trauma in infants, delivering a baby, and care for an acute stroke patient.
