Seacoast Cancer 5K Donor Profile: Sheridan Folger

“This year, a lot of people were telling me not to do it,” says Sheridan Folger of the Seacoast Cancer 5K. In May, a colonoscopy had revealed a cancer reoccurrence and he had undergone a sub-total colectomy with an internal ileal pouch. “It was painful, but the feeling of crossing the finish line was worth the pain,” recalls Folger, who also ran in 2017.

Seeing his oncologist, Dr. Henry Sonneborn, also cross the finish line was very meaningful for Folger. “I’m not an easy patient,” he says. “But Dr. Sonnebron has been amazing. He would meet with my wife, my kids, gave me his cell number, and called to check up on me every day after surgery. And the nurses were off the charts.”

Folger and his team raised more than $1,000 through the race, and he urges others to take part. “Anything we can do to help, whether physically running the darn thing or raising money for it is important,” he says.
