Members of Dover Fire L1312 and L2909, along with firefighters from across the state of NH, recently attended an International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) Peer Support Training Program hosted by Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.
The stresses faced by fire service members throughout the course of their careers – multiple casualty events, violence, injury to children and the inherent dangers of firefighting – can have a cumulative impact on mental health and we ll-being. This training provides the firefighters with the knowledge and skills to assist their peers in times of need and end the stigma that is associated with mental health issues.
This training was provided to the firefighters at no cost thanks to the generosity of donors to the Wentworth-Douglass Foundation.
Says Matt McLean, Union President IAFF Local 1312, Dover Professional Firefighters Association, “Partnerships like this are a true testament to the relationships that WDH has throughout the community in addressing the mental health issues that surround us.”
