Substance Use Disorders

Addiction is defined as a primary chronic disease of the brain that leads to biological, emotional, social and spiritual dysfunction. Estimates report that as much as 10% of the U. S. population, suffer from the devastating effects of addiction. Yet, many do not seek treatment due to embarrassment, or shame, or fear that they will not receive relief and a new opportunity for a sober life in recovery.

Addiction and its effects can be successfully treated for many in an outpatient setting that uses cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), didactic addiction education and practical exercises that emphasize a person’s strengths while challenging their addiction.

At Great Bay Mental Health, counselors are available to help those seeking relief from addiction find their strength in sobriety by using these therapy strategies in a supportive, non-judgmental manner. This treatment is designed to bring relief and focus for the person seeking to overcome addiction and its effects. Counseling is available for all persons affected by addiction, including the person seeking addiction treatment and their significant others, family members, spouses, and loved ones wishing to learn more about addiction and the road to recovery.
