Everything You Need To Know Pre-Bariatric Surgery

You’ve heard about bariatric surgery from friends or family. Maybe you’ve done research online. But now you want reliable information, to decide whether surgery is right for you.

Information Session

Bariatric surgery is a life-changing procedure, so it’s important you get all your questions answered. That’s why the first step in your journey is a free information session, followed by a Q&A, where you’ll hear from board-certified surgeons, our program administrator, and past patients of bariatric surgery. Session topics include:

  • The pros & cons of bariatric surgery
  • The different types of surgery
  • The expertise & support provided by Wentworth-Douglass Hospital
  • Patient testimonials

Note: The Information Session is a required first step for our patients. The only exception to this is patients who will be having revision surgery.

Determining if You Qualify

If you haven’t been able to sustain a healthy body weight through diet and exercise, surgery is an option. To enter the program, you also need to:

  • Be at least 18
  • Have a BMI of at least 40, or a BMI of at least 35 with other resultant health issues (called comorbidities), such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and others

“Now I can rollerblade and ride a bike. I don't need a seatbelt extension on a plane. I went to the Dominican, and I power sailed for the first time. It was on my bucket list for years. I do a lot of activities now. Kayaking. Hiking. I've done four 5Ks! All things I wanted to do or wished I could do, but you know, you're not motivated to do until you lose the weight.”
