Preparing For Surgery

Center for Orthopedics & Sports Medicine

Preparing for Surgery

If surgery is your best option, the better prepared you are, the more successful your outcome. That’s why our focus from day one is educating you and making you more comfortable with your choices.

Attend one of our community outreach seminars to learn more about your options. You’ll automatically receive VIP status to call in that day for a more immediate appointment with a specialist.

Center for Surgical Optimization and Pre-Operative Services

A comprehensive health assessment through our Center for Surgical Optimization and Pre-Operative Services can uncover potential risk factors for your elective joint or spine surgery, so you and your health care team can collaborate on a plan. Interventions may include a new treatment, seeing another clinician for additional therapies, or making lifestyle changes prior to surgery.

Prehabilitation

Get your body ready for surgery with Prehabilitation classes. Work with a physical therapist on flexibility exercises, strength training, and endurance exercises in a group environment to better prepare yourself for hip, knee or shoulder replacements. Studies have shown that people who take the time to improve their strength and flexibility prior to surgery have better outcomes after their surgery.

For more information about Prehab, physical therapy or any of our other Rehabilitation Services, call (603) 742-2101

See a full timeline of our innovative Prehab to Rehab process for joint replacement surgery.

Pre-op Class

Attend your pre-op class to meet your team members, including a nurse, physical therapist, occupational therapist and case manager. Bring along a friend or family member as a “coach,” if you’d like. Together you’ll learn more about our “Sail through Surgery” techniques about how to relax and best prepare for surgery, including the benefits of deep breathing and positive healing thoughts, called affirmations.

Request a Reiki treatment, which is a gentle, non-intrusive touch therapy, or take advantage of aromatherapy or pet therapy.

Watch a video presentation to help you better understand your surgical procedure.

Anytime you’re here, access our television channel, C.A.R.E. (Continuous Ambient Relaxation Environment), offering around-the-clock soothing instrumental music accompanied by images of nature.

We try to anticipate everything you’ll want to know _ from when to start fasting to what you should know about the recovery process.

Yet we understand you may still have questions.  Our professional, caring staff is here to answer them.

Be in the know. It’s our priority.
