Take to the Water for Rehab
Aquatic therapy is ideal for improving your mobility and function, especially following surgery or when you can’t tolerate weight-bearing exercises. By taking advantage of the water’s therapeutic properties and your body’s natural ability to float, you’ll alleviate stress on your joints and minimize pain.
We have a state-of-the-art heated pool at Marsh Brook Rehab for one-on-one aquatic therapy sessions, arthritis exercise program and other group programs with our aquatic therapy team.
We collaborate with all of our clinical teams to offer aquatic therapy for a wide range of conditions, including:
- Total knee and hip joint procedures
- Some specific forms of Fibromyalgia
- Arthritis
- Obesity
- Patients with fractures and other post-traumatic injuries who cannot fully bear weight
Aquatic therapy could benefit your rehab.
Greater joint flexibility: Buoyancy (the ability to float in water) reduces the effects of gravity, allowing for increased joint range of motion and making it easier and less painful to move. Our 92° water helps relax sore and tight muscles.
Increased muscle strength: Did you know that water is up to 700 times more resistant than air, making it the perfect medium for strengthening weakened muscles? Our equipment is specially designed to provide an increased surface area in order to increase your strength in the pool.
Decreased pain: Being immersed in warm water increases blood supply to sore muscles and promotes relaxation. Plus, the water’s effect offers relief to weakened body structures, making it more comfortable - and less painful - to work out.
Improved balance: With the uniform pressure of the water, combined with buoyancy, you’ll have the support you need, so you can react more quickly without the fear of falling or getting hurt.
Features of our pool complex include:
- 20' X 40' pool with variable depth from 3'6" to 7' 6"
- Specialized aquatic exercise equipment
- Swim jet that propels water up to 8 mph for distance swimming in place
- Massage jets
- Wheelchair-adapted lift
- Separate men’s and women’s locker rooms, with changing rooms and showers.
- Fully private locker room for families and clients requiring caregiver assistance.
