Joint Replacement: Grateful Patient After Knee Replacement

Donna and Stephen Cushing wrote a letter to Wentworth-Douglass Hospital following Donna's knee joint replacement surgery this fall. They have agreed to let us share it.

“To the wonderful staff of the 3rd floor Garrison Wing,

Last week, Donna had a double knee replacement and came onto the 3rd floor on Tuesday.

This was our first experience with Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, and we found it to be like no other hospital either of us have ever been in. The level of care, warmth, and compassion from everyone that we had any contact with was astounding. No matter what time of day or night, Donna received exemplary care from the staff on duty. What was truly noticeable was when someone came in her room, they were always smiling and friendly and never seemed to be in a rush to get out of the room because it was just a chore they had to do.

For me, trying to find my way to and from the cafeteria was made much easier by people in the corridors stopping to help me find my way. One lady even walked me back to the elevator I needed. In other hospitals, people in the corridors will avoid eye contact.

When Donna was discharged on the afternoon of September 21, it was like leaving a new group of friends. People stopped what they were doing to say goodbye and wish her the best.

We have a friend coming to this hospital sometime this winter for a double knee joint replacement, and we have assured him that he has made the right choice.

In closing, we feel the superb treatment that was provided by Wentworth-Douglass has made a significant difference in Donna’s recovery.

Thank you,
Stephen and Donna Cushing"
