Wentworth-Douglass Awarded National Radiology Accreditation

Wentworth-Douglass Hospital has been awarded a three-year accreditation in radiation oncology as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

A radiation oncologist uses radiation to cure cancer or to relieve a cancer patient’s pain.

The ACR seal of accreditation, which comes from the nation’s oldest and most widely accepted radiation oncology accrediting body, represents the highest level of quality and patient safety in the healthcare industry. There are only 700 accredited sites nationwide.

“This prestigious accreditation serves as a further reminder that world-class cancer care is available right here on the Seacoast,” said Susan Gallagher, Assistant Vice President of Cancer Services at Wentworth-Douglass. “I’m incredibly proud of our team, who remain dedicated to providing our patients with quality, compassionate care.”

The ACR accreditation is only awarded to facilities that meet specific Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards developed by ACR after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified radiation oncologists and medical physicists who are experts in the field. The assessment consists of an analysis of patient care and treatment, patient safety, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs. The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Radiation Oncology Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report.
