How long have you worked at WDH?
One awesome year!
Please describe your typical day and responsibilities?
My typical day is getting a report, ensuring we will have a great day, getting my patients’ vitals, making sure they are happy and comfortable, doing purposeful rounding, making sure the nurses are situated and all set for their day, stocking the unit ,some comedy relief, unit mom, and holiday unit designer.
Why did you choose to come to WDH?
I was employed here back in 2002, and I left to spread my wings, dabbled in some schooling and other areas of specialty care. I worked most recently as an endoscopy technician. I’ve been an LNA for 26 years, and as a resident of Dover I thought it was time for me to “go home” back to where it started and come back to WDH.
What do you enjoy most about working here?
The patients, of course, but it is an added bonus that I love our staff on 4G!
How would you describe your work experience at WDH?
I can honestly say that I have never experienced a work environment like this. The culture, the work ethic, the staff and the management are unmatched. The staff treats each other with respect, no matter what the position is, they are so willing to help each other. It’s like a family. For me this is the definition of home/work life balance.
What would you say to someone who is considering applying to work here?
I have already recruited staff to come here! I believe that WDH does so much for their staff/employees. That if they are looking for a positive change and need that balance in their life then this is where they need to be!
What is your favorite part of your job?
Making people smile! It doesn’t matter if it’s a patient, a patient’s family member, a coworker, management, housekeeping or the kitchen staff. Make someone smile at least once during the day and things aren’t as bad as they seem. A smile can do wonders when you’re not feeling the best.
BONUS QUESTIONS
What did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a photojournalist for National Geographic and travel the world. I had children young, so no that didn’t happen. But I do have the most artistic creative kids so that’s a win!
What is your proudest moment?
My kids! Any achievement they have makes me proud. My oldest is 25 and he still makes me proud every day, and yes, I tell them all the time how proud of them I am!
Who is your hero?
My mom! She has done so much for us that I wouldn’t be who I was or where I am in life if it wasn’t for her!
